BYD's Luxury Brand Yangwang Heads to Europe

BYD, the Chinese automaker renowned for its affordable electric vehicles, is making waves in the European market with its high-end luxury brand, Yangwang. The company's Vice President, Li, confirmed plans to bring Yangwang to Europe, making it the first Chinese automaker to offer luxury cars in the continent.

The announcement was made in the British automotive magazine "Autocar". BYD plans to introduce models such as the plug-in hybrid SUV U8 and the fully electric sports car U9, as well as "additional vehicles" in Europe.

The Yangwang U8, priced at 140,000 euros, is a plug-in hybrid SUV equipped with all-wheel drive and four electric motors, delivering over 1,100 horsepower. Its counterpart, the Yangwang U9, priced at 210,000 euros, is Yangwang's first fully electric super sports car. The U9 boasts a unique "Dance Mode" that allows the vehicle to move in sync with music.

The high-end Yangwang brand was introduced in China two years ago and is anticipated to be significantly more expensive in Germany and Europe compared to China. The Yangwang U8 is planned to be launched and delivered in Europe in 2026, with no records of earlier deliveries in Europe before this planned date.

The Yangwang U8 and U9 compete directly with luxury brands like Bentley, Porsche, and Ferrari. The U8's amphibious capabilities, allowing it to swim for up to 30 minutes, add an extra edge to its luxury appeal.

Li did not provide specific details but hinted at the U8, U9, and additional vehicles being planned for the European market. The company's decision to venture into the European luxury market could signal a shift in the automotive industry, as more Chinese automakers look to expand their reach beyond China.

BYD has gained prominence due to its affordable electric vehicles, and the introduction of Yangwang to Europe marks a bold move into the premium segment of the market. As the company prepares to deliver the Yangwang U8 in Europe, auto enthusiasts eagerly await the arrival of these luxury vehicles.
