Event Wrap-up: Taipei 2025 Summit Ends Smoothly

News Article: TAIFEX and FIA Host Successful FIA Forum in Taipei

The Taiwan Futures Exchange (TAIFEX) and the Futures Industry Association (FIA) recently co-hosted the FIA Forum: Taipei 2025 at the Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in Taipei. The event, held on August 14, attracted over 300 industry professionals from Taiwan, the US, Europe, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

In his speech, Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) Deputy Chairman Chen Yen-liang highlighted the heightened volatility in financial markets due to multiple global challenges. He emphasised the importance of the futures market's price discovery and risk-hedging capabilities for enhancing financial stability and resilience, which can be achieved through market opening and product innovation.

The forum consisted of two panel discussions: "Taiwan's Derivatives Markets in an Era of Uncertainty and Opportunity" and "Generating Liquidity: Navigating a Shifting Trading Environment." Participants shared experiences and perspectives on opportunities and challenges presented by technological advancements, market restructuring, and improved capital efficiency.

TAIFEX Chairman Wu Tzu-hsin shared that Taiwan's futures market reached a record-high trading volume of 395 million contracts last year. To provide investors with more complete, around-the-clock hedging tools, the TAIFEX has expanded trading products for the night session. The exchange has also launched more precise and flexible products, including Micro TAIEX Futures and TAIEX Friday Weekly Options, to meet the market's hedging needs.

Since 2024, the FSC has been promoting the creation of an Asian asset management center with Taiwanese characteristics. Chen Yen-liang believes that with joint efforts, Taiwan's financial market can grow steadily and play a greater role in the Asian asset management market. The goal is to expand the scale of Taiwan's asset management, improve the financial services chain, and attract domestic and foreign funds to deepen their presence in Taiwan.

The forum explored how Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region can drive market growth through innovation and expanded participation. Many participants expressed that they gained a lot from the forum and looked forward to participating in it again in the future. The TAIFEX aims to deepen ESG practices and push the market toward a new stage of greater stability and diversity.

Moreover, the FSC will collaborate with TAIFEX and other parties to strengthen the application of derivative financial products in asset management. The event concluded with a positive outlook for the future of Taiwan's financial market and its role in the Asian asset management market.
