Everton Struggles with Uncertainty as Pre-Season Issues Persist

Everton's less-than-ideal pre-season performance has cast a shadow over the team's much-anticipated move to their new home, the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Fans were hopeful for a fresh start, but the team's struggles have raised concerns.

In his final press conference of the Summer Series, manager David Moyes addressed the pressing need for transfer activity. Moyes expressed concerns about lofty ambitions overshadowing immediate realities, especially regarding the new stadium and potential new owners.

Moyes has already made some moves in the transfer market, signing Thierno Barry from Villarreal for £27 million and Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich for approximately £8 million. However, Moyes privately questions whether these new signings can make an immediate impact due to their unfamiliarity with the Premier League's demands.

During the pre-season, Moyes had an animated discussion with Tomas Soucek, a player he has a history with from his time at West Ham United.

Despite the challenges, Moyes remains optimistic about a brighter future for Everton. However, he acknowledges that progress has been slow thus far, and talks of securing players like Jack Grealish may be premature at this stage.

Moyes also expressed dislike for Snoop Dogg's music but resonated with one of his lyrics, "I can't fake it," reflecting the current atmosphere surrounding Everton.

Jarrad Branthwaite, who missed the US tour with a minor issue, might return to training this week. Moyes is also considering the signing of Tyler Dibling, a young player from Southampton. At 19 years old, Dibling represents a long-term investment rather than an immediate solution for Everton.

Everton is currently at the bottom of the Premier League Summer Series standings, having only managed one point after a recent draw with Manchester United and three consecutive losses. James Tarkowski made a significant contribution upon his return from injury during the match against West Ham.

There could be teething problems at the start due to the new stadium, new owners, or other factors. Moyes' job is to give fans a team to enjoy coming to watch, and he is optimistic about finding the right solutions to turn Everton's fortunes around.

In a more positive note, Everton has already signed several players this summer, including Thierno Barry, Jack Grealish, Carlos Alcaraz, and Dibling. Nathan Patterson, who made 10 Premier League appearances last season for Everton, is expected to go out on loan for more regular first-team football.
