"EverydayTest Kickoff Event Celebrates Senior Fitness and Mobility"
On Monday, September 1st, from 12 to 5 PM, the city of Wiesbaden will host an event aimed at promoting exercise and fitness among senior citizens. The event, titled "Active and Fit for Life," will take place at Wiesbaden Town Hall.
From 12 to 2:30 PM, visitors can try out various sports activities on Schlossplatz and engage in conversations at information booths. These activities are designed to test fitness levels and introduce seniors to a variety of sports activities available in Wiesbaden.
The official program begins at 3 PM in the City Council Chamber, opened by Angelika Dortmann, chairperson of the Senior Citizens' Council. Speakers at the event include Social Affairs Commissioner Dr. Patricia Becher, Dr. Volker Cihlar, head of the Department of Senior Citizens' Affairs of the State Capital Wiesbaden, Karsten Schütze, head of the Sports Department of the State Capital Wiesbaden, and Dr. Christoph Rott from the Institute of Gerontology of the University of Heidelberg.
The event marks the start of a new permanent offer for regular everyday fitness tests in Wiesbaden districts. These tests will be organized by sports clubs and carriers of senior citizens' affairs, with the City of Wiesbaden in cooperation with the network GereNETZ, which includes various actors focused on older adults and social work, as well as the Forum Demenz Wiesbaden, a coalition addressing the needs of people with dementia and their relatives.
Exercise is recommended as a solution for a common illness - inactivity. Prolonged inactivity can lead to illness, and many people, especially those who work in offices or use cars, escalators, and elevators, may find themselves leading sedentary lifestyles. Engaging in exercise, whether at home, in nature, or through traditional sports activities, is crucial for maintaining good health.
Dr. Patricia Becher, Social Affairs Commissioner, emphasizes that exercise is important for a good life in old age, as it strengthens health, creates encounters, and maintains independence. The gym, walking group, football training, and yoga class have been temporarily suspended, making events like "Active and Fit for Life" even more important.
Participation in the event is free of charge, and visitors can take fitness tests at six stations of the Wiesbaden Sports Circle in the Town Hall from 12 to 5 PM. The event is targeted towards senior citizens who wish to test their fitness and learn about sports activities in Wiesbaden.
In summary, the "Active and Fit for Life" event in Wiesbaden encourages senior citizens to engage in exercise to maintain good health, create social encounters, and maintain independence. The event marks the start of a new permanent offer for regular everyday fitness tests in Wiesbaden districts, and all are welcome to participate.
