Expanded district heating line unveiled in Colemanstraße

In the city of Gießen, residents and commuters can expect some changes in their usual routes due to ongoing construction projects. Here's a breakdown of the key developments.

Road Detours

During the construction phases, detours will be in place for vehicles exiting Rudolf-Diesel-Straße, Rödgener Straße, and Ursulum. The specific routes will depend on the destination.

  • For those heading from Rudolf-Diesel-Straße, detours will be via Rödgener Straße, Lilienthalstraße, Stolzenmorgen, and Colemanstraße. This route is also part of the U20 detour.
  • Traffic from Rudolf-Diesel-Straße via Zeppelinstraße, Stolzenmorgen, and Colemanstraße is also part of the U20 detour.
  • For those coming from the Rödgener Straße exit, the detour will be via Lilienthalstraße, Stolzenmorgen, and Colemanstraße.
  • During the second construction phase, vehicles coming from Rudolf-Diesel-Straße will also reach their destination via the same detour.
  • For traffic coming from the Ursulum exit towards Kassel, the U20 detour will pass through the "Am Alten Flugplatz" area. During the second construction phase, the detour towards Frankfurt will be via Oberlachweg, Rudolf-Diesel-Straße, Rödgener Straße, and Lilienthalstraße.
  • For the second construction phase, a one-way closure of Colemanstraße towards the "Am Alten Flugplatz" area is necessary.

Clear Signage

Rest assured, all detours are clearly signposted on site to ensure minimal confusion for drivers.

District Heating Network Expansion

The Gießen district heating network is expanding to meet the increasing demand for district heating in Wieseck. The new line will make the network more flexible and avoid the need to build an additional heat generator in Wieseck.

The expansion is necessary due to the growing demand that the existing plant cannot meet. The first two sections of the new line will be laid in the Rudolf Diesel Street/Ursum/Oberlach Way industrial area. SWG will lay a new main line in Oberlach Way and Coleman Street starting June 2.

Apologies for Inconvenience

Ulli Boos, the city's mayor, has expressed his apologies for the inconvenience caused by the construction work. The responsible parties aim to complete the construction work within the planned time frame to minimize these inconveniences.

The planning manager of the District Heating project in Gießen is currently not publicly specified. The new main line will reach the Eli Lilly site in Wieseck.

Stay updated for more information as these construction projects progress.
