Improved Motor Vehicle Insurance Regional Classifications for Millions of Drivers in 2022
Good news for millions of motorists in Germany! The German Insurance Association (GDV) has announced changes to the regional classes for motor vehicle liability insurance, with 52 districts and around 4.2 million car drivers set to benefit from better classifications in 2022.
According to the latest GDV regional statistics, Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria continues to hold the highest index value for motor vehicle liability insurance, with a regional class of 143.00. This indicates that the region has some of the worst damage statistics in motor vehicle liability insurance, with damages more than a third higher than the national average. However, around 2 million fully or partially insured drivers in this region will see an improvement in their classifications.
On the other hand, Wesermarsch in Brake, Lower Saxony, has the lowest index value for comprehensive insurance, with a Vollkasko of 76.17. This means that the region has some of the best damage statistics for comprehensive insurance, with damages significantly lower than the national average.
The districts in Germany with the highest regional classes for motor vehicle liability insurance in 2022 include Offenbach in Hessen with the top region class 12 and an index of 139.12. This indicates the worst claims record in the country, while the districts with the lowest regional classes include Elbe-Elster in Brandenburg with region class 1 and an index of 66.41, indicating the best claims record.
For the remaining 305 districts and around 32.8 million motor vehicle liability insured, the regional classes will remain the same in 2022. Meanwhile, around 56 districts and 5 million car drivers will have higher regional classes for motor vehicle liability insurance.
The better the classification in the regional class, the more favorable it is for the insurance premium. The index for motor vehicle liability insurance is based on the national average with a value of 100. A lower value indicates better damage statistics for the region, while a higher value indicates worse damage statistics.
It's also worth noting that Ostallgäu in Bavaria has the highest index value for partial insurance, with a regional class of 204.09. However, Bamberg in Bavaria has the lowest index value for partial insurance, with a Teilkasko of 56.45.
The Prignitz in Brandenburg has the best damage statistics in motor vehicle liability insurance, with damages 30% lower than the national average. Berlin, on the other hand, has the worst damage statistics, with a Zulassungsbezirk of 137.26.
For around 31.2 million, everything remains the same in terms of regional classes for comprehensive and partial insurance. The GDV classifies 413 registration districts in Germany into regional classes annually.
Overall, these changes to the regional classes for motor vehicle liability insurance will provide relief to millions of drivers in Germany, with lower insurance premiums for those living in areas with better damage statistics.
