Expanded entertainment venue with sports and events coming to Hamburg
In the heart of Hamburg's bustling Rothenburgsort, a new sports and events arena is set to take shape. The Billebogen Development Company GmbH & Co. KG has announced the availability of plots of land for this ambitious project.
The arena, planned to accommodate approximately 8,000 spectators, is intended for a diverse quarter in Hamburg's Neuer Huckepackbahnhof. This development aligns with the Billebogen's focus on research and development, innovation, sports, and culture.
The expression of interest procedure for the arena is aimed at project development companies and investors, with the goal being a purely privately financed development. The bidding process will result in an "assignment" with an exclusive agreement between the BBEG and the potential developer. If all conditions are met, the developer can conclude an hereditary building rights contract with the BBEG, with the aim of concluding this agreement in 2026.
Construction of the arena is expected to begin at the end of the 2020s, allowing operation to commence in the early 2030s. The arena is intended for volleyball competitions of Hamburg's Olympic bid and will be available to local professional sports teams for at least 25 days a year.
The Billebogen is not the only area undergoing development. Europe's largest inner-city urban development project, HafenCity, borders the Billebogen. With an area of 157 hectares, the HafenCity is creating a lively neighbourhood in Hamburg, offering apartments, offices, shops, gastronomy, and cultural and recreational facilities.
The arena project also coincides with other developments in the city. A design competition for Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld was mentioned in another article, and discussions around the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Grasbrook, and Future Hamburg Talks continue.
For those interested in the sports and events arena development, the Expression of Interest Procedure can be found on the websites: billebogen.de, hafencity.com, and cruisegate-hamburg.de.
In related news, Hannah Ziemer, CEO of Comaps, was a topic of discussion in one of the similar articles. The arena, with its planned 500 new apartments and up to 10,500 new jobs, is set to contribute significantly to Hamburg's growing urban landscape.
