Expanding Automotive Trade Event: IAA Increases in Size and Vibrancy
The International Automobile Show (IAA) is set to return to Munich from September 9 to 14, 2025, promising a week-long celebration of automotive innovation and sustainability. With over 700 exhibitors expected, the event is poised to be a significant success, according to VDA.
One of the key highlights of IAA 2025 will be the presentation of future Munich S-Bahn trains. German manufacturers will showcase their latest innovations and new models, as confirmed by VDA CEO Jรผrgen Mindel. In addition, around 30 actual car manufacturers are expected to participate, marking a 33% increase compared to two years ago, signifying greater international support for the IAA.
A notable addition to the list of exhibitors is the US tech giant, Google, while Tesla will be absent. The rising electric SUV and autonomous driving research company, Rivian, is also expected to make its debut at the show. Korean manufacturers Kia and Hyundai are returning, and several Chinese companies will be represented for the first time. Chinese companies have booked large stands in Munich's city centre, with BYD alone reserving 15 spaces for test vehicles.
IAA 2025 is not just a car show. Deutsche Bahn and the bicycle industry will also be present, and some exhibitors not related to the automotive industry will join the event. Visitors will have the opportunity to test drive 231 different models, with the majority being electric vehicles. No cars with purely combustion engines will be available for test drives.
Families with children are encouraged to visit the exhibition, and the event will feature an entertainment stage, concerts, and a light art exhibition inspired by Berlin. In 2023, nearly half a million people generated an additional purchasing power of around 160 million euros for Munich and the region.
The increased number of participating manufacturers and exhibitors, coupled with the anticipated rise in Chinese participation, underscores the growing importance of IAA Mobility as a global platform for innovation and sustainable mobility solutions. Despite environmental protests, the IAA is already considered a success by VDA.
The VDA has entered into a partnership with Deutsche Bahn for the IAA, ensuring seamless transportation for visitors during the event. Test bicycles will be provided at the IAA 2025, encouraging sustainable modes of transport.
As the world moves towards a more sustainable future, IAA Mobility 2025 promises to be a significant step forward in showcasing the latest advancements in electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and sustainable mobility solutions.
