Münster and BASF Coatings Agree on Land Swap for Expansion and Recycling Centre

The city of Münster and BASF Coatings have agreed on a land swap that will enable the expansion of BASF Coatings' site in Hiltrup and the construction of a new recycling centre in the city.

Under the terms of the agreement, BASF Coatings will receive a green area at Vogelstange for 25 years, where they will develop a wet biotope with a bat habitat. In return, the city will provide BASF Coatings with a plot of land adjacent to its operating area on Glasuritstraße.

The expansion of BASF Coatings' site in Hiltrup includes building beyond its core competencies in paints and coatings. The focus of the new recycling centre, which will be located on the land acquired from BASF Coatings on Hansestraße in Hiltrup, is on strengthening reuse and recycling.

The planned expansion of BASF Coatings' site in Hiltrup is located next to the existing facilities with an option on an area that includes provisions for ecological compensation at the "Silbersee" on the site. This ecological compensation area is in case a previously unused part of the company's site - the remaining sandpit "Silbersee" - is used for operational purposes in the future.

The relevant zoning plan for BASF Coatings' site expansion in Hiltrup has already been changed. The new recycling centre in Hiltrup will be upgraded to offer more services and extended opening hours.

Arno Minas, the city's property commissioner, stated that the land swap will enable the construction of the new recycling centre in Hiltrup. Dr. Daniel Baumkötter, technical manager of Münster's waste management department, aims to present the rough planning with a cost estimate as soon as possible this year, preferably in the fourth quarter.

This land swap marks a significant step forward in the development of both BASF Coatings and the city of Münster. The new recycling centre is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening reuse and recycling efforts in the city, while the green area at Vogelstange will serve as a valuable ecological compensation for any future operational expansion by BASF Coatings.
