Expansion of HCM City - Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway Set to Alleviate Traffic Congestion
The long-awaited expansion of the HCM City - Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway is set to commence in December 2021, marking a significant step towards improving the transport system in southern Vietnam. This project forms part of a series of traffic projects aimed at constructing a comprehensive network across the key southern economic zone.
The expressway, which plays a crucial role in linking HCM City with the Mekong Delta, particularly Tiền Giang Province and Long An Province, has been notorious for severe congestion, especially on weekends and holidays. The expansion project aims to address this issue, with the goal of reducing traffic congestion and enhancing the efficiency of the transport system.
The project's investors include Đèo Cả Group Joint Stock Company, HCM City Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company, Tasco Joint Stock Company, Hoàng Long Construction Investment Corporation - Joint Stock Company, and CII Service and Investment One Member Co. Ltd. The total investment for the project is over VNĐ41.4 trillion (US$1.63 billion), an increase of VNĐ1.57 trillion compared to the previously estimated amount.
The expressway will be extended to 96.13km, up from around 91km, and will progressively complete the expressway network in the Mekong Delta. The HCM City - Trung Luong section will be expanded to eight lanes, with a total width of 41m and a design speed of 120km/h. Meanwhile, the Trung Luong - My Thuan section will be expanded to six lanes, with a total width of 32.25m and a design speed of 100km/h.
In addition to the physical expansion, the project includes the construction of an intelligent transport system, toll stations, and rest stops, aiming to provide a more comfortable and efficient journey for users. The project is expected to be completed in 2028, contributing to the development of a more efficient transport system in southern Vietnam.
The expansion project is expected to help alleviate traffic congestion, not just on the expressway, but also in the surrounding areas. By providing a faster and more reliable transportation option, it is hoped that the project will encourage the use of private vehicles, reducing the number of cars on local roads and contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
The feasibility study report for the expansion project has been sent to the Department for Roads of Việt Nam, and the project is being implemented using the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) method. The exact investment details have not been explicitly mentioned in the current paragraph, but the project is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the region.
In conclusion, the expansion of the HCM City - Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway is a welcome development for the region. By addressing traffic congestion, improving the transport system, and promoting sustainable development, the project is set to bring numerous benefits to the people of southern Vietnam.
