Get ready for an astronomical event as a total lunar eclipse is set to occur on the night of September 7-8. The Virtual Telescope Project and Astronomie Kassel (AAK e.V.) are collaborating to bring you a free livestream of this celestial spectacle.

The livestream will be available on YouTube, starting from 12 p.m. EDT (1600 GMT) on September 7. Journalist Anne Buckle and Graham Jones will co-host the event, guiding viewers through the phases of the eclipse.

The livestream will feature live views of the moon as it enters Earth's shadow, including the penumbra, umbra, totality, and the phases that follow. Viewers can expect to witness the blood moon during totality, as the Earth's shadow casts a reddish hue on the lunar disk.

The livestream's location is the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean, where a team led by Steffen Thorsen will capture live views. Additional images will be provided from Kassel (Germany), Dubai, and Australia during the event.

Regrettably, the Virtual Telescope Project's robotic telescopes in Manciano, Italy, will not be part of this livestream.

Over 7 billion people are expected to have a line of sight on the moon during totality of the September 7-8 eclipse. The livestream will be available regardless of geographical location, ensuring that everyone with an internet connection can join in on the celestial celebration.

The total lunar eclipse occurs when Earth passes directly between the moon and sun during a full moon phase. During totality, viewers can observe Earth's shadow slipping from the lunar disk.

The editor's note encourages viewers to share their images of the total lunar eclipse with the website's readers. So, whether you're watching from home or capturing the event through a telescope, don't forget to capture the moment and share it with the community.

Tune in to the livestream from 1:45 p.m. EDT (17:45 GMT) on Sept. 7 to witness this awe-inspiring event. Subscribe to the website's newsletter for breaking news, updates on rocket launches, and skywatching events. Happy stargazing!
