The Rooftop Cinema Club, a popular destination for movie enthusiasts, has set up shop on the top of the Worthington Renaissance Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas. This community-funded initiative offers a unique movie-going experience that goes beyond the regular cinema setting.

Founded by Gerry Cottle Jr., a man with a background in the circus and entertainment industry, the Rooftop Cinema Club started in 2011 in London. Cottle began by playing old DVDs on a rooftop for guests, and the concept has since grown to include nine venues, primarily in major U.S. cities such as New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and Houston, in addition to Fort Worth.

At the Fort Worth Rooftop Cinema Club, moviegoers can watch films on a big screen from comfy lawn chairs while wearing personal headphones. The movies played are carefully chosen to evoke a sense of nostalgia, with classics like Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, Scream and more recent releases.

But the Rooftop Cinema Club is not just about the movies. It's about the experience. According to Cottle, the magic of cinema at Rooftop Cinema Club is annotated with great food, cocktails, and an outdoor setting. Attendees can arrive early to enjoy views of downtown Fort Worth, play games, and indulge in drinks and snacks.

The Rooftop Cinema Club in Fort Worth stands out from other theaters due to its sense of community. It hosts various events throughout the year, such as "wooftop" dog-friendly screenings, Pure Barre Movie, TV marathons, singles night, and more.

The Rooftop Cinema Club in Fort Worth is a partnership between KERA and The Dallas Morning News, under the banner of the Go See DFW calendar. The initiative is funded by several organisations, including the Better Together Fund, Carol & Don Glendenning, City of Dallas OAC, Communities Foundation of Texas, The University of Texas at Dallas, The Dallas Foundation, Eugene McDermott Foundation, James & Gayle Halperin Foundation, Jennifer & Peter Altabef, and The Meadows Foundation.

The News and KERA retain full editorial control of the arts journalism collaboration, Arts Access, which powers the Rooftop Cinema Club's journalism.

Tickets for the Rooftop Cinema Club at the Worthington Renaissance Hotel in Fort Worth range from $19 to $26 for standard seats and $21 to $28 for premium seats, with multiple showings available. Whether you're a movie buff, a foodie, or simply looking for a unique night out, the Fort Worth Rooftop Cinema Club offers a magical movie-going experience with a sense of community, great food, cocktails, and an outdoor setting.
