In the latest episode of the popular German show Bares für Rares, aired on August 29, an antique scale made by Berkel caught the attention of experts and buyers alike. The scale, which originated from the grocery store of great-great-great-aunt of one of the show's participants, Frank, in Bad Godesberg, is believed to be from the 1920s or 1930s, according to expert Sven Deutschmanek.

The Berkel scale, with its age-related scratches and chips, was brought into the studio by Frank and Dagmar. The impressive weight of the antique scale was undeniable, adding to its allure. Frank had requested a price of two and a half thousand euros for the scale, but expert Deutschmanek firmly rejected this price, noting that the scale needed to be completely repainted.

Deutschmanek estimated the antique scale's value to be between 150 and 250 euros, a far cry from Frank's asking price. The buyer who stepped up to acquire the antique scale was Julian Schmitz-Avila, who purchased it for 210 euros. Schmitz-Avila's colleague, Anaisio Guedes, also showed interest in the antique scale, but Schmitz-Avila had reservations about the purchase.

Guedes, a Libra by zodiac sign, mentioned his interest in the antique scale, but in the end, it was Schmitz-Avila who made the purchase. The antique scale can now be viewed in the ZDF media library, providing a glimpse into the past for those interested in history and antiques.

Despite the lower-than-expected sale price, expert Deutschmanek emphasized that the antique scale is very interesting due to its age, making it a valuable addition to any collection. The sale of the Berkel antique scale in Bares für Rares serves as a reminder that the value of an item often lies not only in its price but also in its history and the stories it tells.
