Explore hidden gems situated amidst levees and historic monuments! Free guided tour hosted on September 14 for Monument Open Day.
On Sunday, September 14, the Neuwied Tourist Information (TI) invites you to embark on two unique tours that offer an insight into the city's rich history.
Firstly, the tour of the Old Cemetery, starting at 2 PM. This historic cemetery, opened in 1783 as the first municipal and interdenominational cemetery in Neuwied, is the final resting place of many well-known Neuwied families. The tour will take you through the cemetery, visiting the historic cemetery keeper's lodge and the mortuary chapel. Along the way, you'll learn interesting facts about the history and function of the cemetery, as well as its numerous historically valuable monuments.
The second tour, starting at 3 PM, visits Neuwied's most famous structure - the dyke. The tour begins at the Dyke Information Centre and the group will walk along the entire dyke wall and a section of the earth dyke. The program includes fascinating details about the history and purpose of the dyke.
Please note that registration for both tours is required at least two days before the tour date. You can register by email, phone, or in person at Marktstraße 59 during opening hours. For more information about these and other city tours, visit our website at www.our website/fuehrungen.
It's important to mention that the Old Cemetery tour is part of the Day of Open Heritage, while the dyke tour is a separate event. Registration for both tours is free for the Old Cemetery tour and costs 6 euros for adults and 4 euros for children for the dyke tour.
The leadership of the tours is not explicitly named in the search results, but an event conducted by the Tourist-Information Neuwied is led by Mr. Petry, Limes-Cicerone.
We look forward to seeing you on September 14 for these exciting tours and the opportunity to delve deeper into Neuwied's history!
