Exploring Diet Strategies Based on Individual Metabolism - Complimentary Online Workshop

Pippa Campbell, a renowned functional nutritionist and metabolic balance coach, has introduced a groundbreaking method to help individuals find their unique metabolic type and lose weight effectively. Her approach, outlined in her book Eat Right Lose Weight: 7 Metabolic Types, Which One Are You?, aims to shift the focus from a "weight loss mindset" to a "well-you" mindset.

The method involves a comprehensive questionnaire divided into seven sections or Metabolic Types, each focusing on a body system that may be imbalanced in someone who can't lose weight or keeps putting it on. By answering questions about sleeping habits, energy levels, cravings, and other symptoms, individuals can identify their metabolic type and learn how to eat for optimal health and weight loss.

The Metabolic Types

  1. Cortisol Type: For those with high cortisol levels, eating regularly, starting breakfast within an hour of waking, and limiting phone usage can help manage cortisol levels. Adequate protein and vitamin B foods, along with consuming 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar daily, are also beneficial.
  2. Insulin Type: Focusing on low GI foods like proteins, healthy fats, and non-starchy veggies can help manage hunger for this type. Eating foods rich in chromium, such as eggs, beans, tomato, beef, and turkey, can improve insulin sensitivity. Consuming 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar daily and eating walnuts daily, alternating with pumpkin seeds, can also help manage cortisol levels.
  3. Oestrogen Type: Eating 2 tablespoons of broccoli sprouts daily can help balance oestrogen levels. Eating sulphur-rich foods like beetroot, shallots, and garlic can also help. Consuming cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, watercress, sauerkraut, mustard greens, kale, and rocket can further support this type.
  4. Serotonin Type: Eating good carbs with the evening meal can help boost serotonin levels. Eating gut-loving foods like kimchi and sauerkraut daily can improve gut health, as 80% of serotonin is produced in the gut. Eating high tryptophan foods like turkey, chicken, eggs, and tofu can also help boost serotonin levels.
  5. Thyroid Type: This type benefits from eating regularly, limiting phone usage, and filtering water. Vitamin D and Zinc, found in mushrooms, eggs, and pumpkin seeds, are important for healthy thyroid function. Selenium and iodine, found in fish, seafood, seaweed, egg, and mushrooms, are also crucial. Eating a tablespoon of seaweed daily can further support thyroid function.
  6. Detox Type: Eating sulphur-rich foods like garlic, onion, shallots, asparagus can support the detoxification process. Eating more cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale, Brussel sprouts, red cabbage, watercress, and rocket can also support detoxification. Eating 2 cups of leafy greens daily can further support this process.

A Healthier You

By understanding and catering to their metabolic type, individuals can feel "well, energetic and vibrant." Pippa Campbell encourages people to chew food well, stimulating the production of digestive enzymes, and to take 5 minutes to breathe before eating, improving digestion. Eating raw foods such as onion and garlic, which are prebiotics, can support gut health. Bitter foods like radishes, artichokes, and turmeric can support bile production, helping in fat digestion.
