Exploring Sonic Realms and Cultural Strongholds at Morgenland Festival Osnabrück 2025: A Musical Adventure Awaits

The much-anticipated Morgenland Festival Osnabrück is set to make a grand comeback in the summer of 2025, promising a diverse and captivating programme that spans over two weeks. From June 29 to July 11, the city of Osnabrück will be transformed into a global musical melting pot, welcoming artists from around the world.

The festival's opening performance will be a spectacular collaboration, featuring the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Kayhan Kalhor on the kamancha, and Alan Gilbert on the conductor's podium. This powerful ensemble is sure to set the tone for an unforgettable festival.

The lineup for the 2025 Morgenland Festival Osnabrück is nothing short of extraordinary. International artists such as Dawn of Midi, Johnny Gandelsman, Brooklyn Rider, Issam Rafea, Asya Fateyeva, François Rabbath, Layale Chaker, Dinuk Wijeratne, Christine Zayed, Tarek Yamani, the Cello Octet Amsterdam, Karen Ouzounian, Nai Barghouti, Jake Charkey, Kinan Azmeh, Shabnam Parvaresh, and Erdem Helvacioglu will all grace the stage.

One of the highlights of the festival will be an extraordinary concert on July 11, 2025, featuring two pianos in a choreographed interplay of sound, space, and movement. This unique performance is not to be missed.

Another exciting event is the double concerto, a collaboration between the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and the University Musical Society Ann Arbor/USA. Commissioned especially for the 20th anniversary of the festival, this double concerto promises to be a memorable addition to the programme.

The festival's theme for 2025 is change, and it will explore this concept through a diverse fringe programme of workshops, artist talks, and participatory formats.

In addition to the main concerts, Erdem Helvacioglu, a composer and sound designer based in Brooklyn, is developing a new work in collaboration with the Osnabrück Youth Choir. This promising collaboration is sure to add another layer of depth to the festival.

The Morgenland Festival Osnabrück 2025 will also feature Kayhan Kalhor's new double concerto, titled "Venus in the Mirror." Iranian kamancha virtuoso Kalhor, Montreal-based setar master Kiya Tabassian, U.S.-based percussionist Behrouz Jamali, and the Syrian-American clarinetist and composer Kinan Azmeh, who is also the festival's artistic trustee, will all be part of the festival.

Kinan Azmeh, a Syrian clarinetist and composer, will be the guest curator for the festival, ensuring a unique and thought-provoking programme. The festival is led by clarinetist and artist Shabnam Parvaresh from Tehran, known for her experimental music and multimedia performances.
