Exploring the Unexpected Dimensions of Sexual Preferences Among Male Video Game Players

In a groundbreaking study published in 2017 by researchers Sansone et al., the sexual health of male gamers has been explored for the first time. The study, which used two questionnaires - the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT) and the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-15) - to assess participants' sexual health, has provided some intriguing insights.

The research reveals that, on average, gamers play video games for at least one hour per day, contradicting the common belief that non-gamers spend more time gaming. However, it's important to note that non-gamers, on average, play for less than one hour per day.

Contrary to the stereotype, the study does not support the notion that gamers have unhealthy or less-than-ideal sexual lives. In fact, the results suggest that gamers may be less likely to suffer from premature ejaculation compared to non-gamers. This could be due to the 'reward system' of video games, which may affect the dopaminergic system, increasing dopamine levels. Dopamine, acting as the 'pleasure hormone', is involved in facilitating orgasm and ejaculation.

However, the study also found that gamers, on average, showed significantly less sexual desire compared to non-gamers. Gaming, as a source of repeated dopamine peaks, may lead to an enhanced steady-state homeostasis and decreased activation of receptors. This decrease in activation of receptors may cause tolerance in the ejaculatory reflex and a decreased interest in intercourse.

The study also suggests that video game play may have positive impacts on cognitive functions, working memory, processing speed, and executive functions, potentially preventing obesity and ensuring a correct lifestyle. However, it's crucial to remember that more research is needed to confirm these results.

The study involved 396 male participants aged 18 to 50, with 199 participants having no sexual activity in the past four weeks excluded. The search results do not contain information on which authors supervised the research project investigating the relationship between the sexual life of male video game players and video game playing.

In conclusion, this study provides a valuable starting point for understanding the link between video game play and sexual health. While it suggests that gamers may be less likely to suffer from premature ejaculation, it also indicates that gamers may have a decreased sexual desire compared to non-gamers. As such, a gamer, potentially, may be a good partner choice for someone seeking a partner who does not suffer from premature ejaculation and has a less frequent sexual desire.
