Explosive devices discovered in Beckinghausen: detonation trigger activated, evacuation not required
Unexploded Ordinance Discovered at Lünen's Former Sports Field
A World War II bomb was discovered at a former sports field on Kreuzstraße in Lünen during an inspection conducted by the Westphalia-Lippe Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (Kampfmittelräumdienst) on August 21, 2025. The inspection focused on two suspected unexploded ordnance (UXO) points at the location.
The first UXO found at the site had already detonated upon impact, requiring no further action. However, the second UXO will be subject to a controlled detonation on the same day, August 21. The Lünen Fire Department will secure the detonation site with sandbags, and no evacuation is necessary for the event.
The safety radius around the detonation site will be only 50 meters. The controlled detonation of the second UXO will be carried out by the Kampfmittelräumdienst. The Westphalia-Lippe Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service is responsible for the inspection, but it's not mentioned whether they will be involved in the controlled detonation.
The controlled detonation of the suspected UXO will take place at the former sports field on Kreuzstraße. The public is advised to stay clear of the area on the day of the event for safety reasons. No details about the outcome or findings of the controlled detonation of the second UXO were provided.
