Factsheet on Luke Poulter: 17 Essential Points about the Walker Cup Team Member from Great Britain and Ireland
Luke Poulter, the son of renowned golfer Ian Poulter, has been making waves in the world of golf. Born on May 22, 2004, Poulter started playing golf at the tender age of two and has since become a force to be reckoned with.
Poulter's golfing career took a significant leap forward in 2021 when he committed to the University of Florida. His college years proved to be fruitful as he claimed his biggest win in 2025 with a victory at the Schenkel Invitational, finishing with an impressive eight-under score.
However, Poulter's journey has not been without its challenges. In 2024, during US Open qualifying, he suffered a stress fracture in his right L4 vertebrae, which forced him to withdraw. Despite this setback, Poulter bounced back and in July 2025, he was selected for the Walker Cup at Cypress Point.
Poulter's college success continued as he finished three shots back of the final qualifying place at Royal Cinque Ports for The Open Championship in 2025. He also lost a playoff at a final qualifying event for the US Open, finishing in a share of fourth, and was defeated by former PGA Tour pro, Austen Truslow.
Poulter's professional debut came in the International Series England event on the Asian Tour in 2023. Despite his father, Ian Poulter, finishing solo second, Luke managed to make the cut and finished in a share of 22nd.
Through the 2023-24 season, Poulter played collegiately 10 times, showcasing his consistency and determination. His match play record was equally impressive, with victories at the East Lake Cup and the SEC Championship Match Play.
In 2022, Poulter won his first collegiate title at the Willow Cup. Before turning professional, Poulter even had the opportunity to caddy for golfing legend Gary Player.
Poulter's achievements have not gone unnoticed, with his best ever position on the World Amateur Golf Ranking being 27th. In July 2025, Poulter even featured in a YouTube video alongside his dad, taking on tennis players Andy and Jamie Murray in a 2v2 golf match.
As of writing, Poulter is attending the University of Florida during the 2024/25 academic year, continuing to balance his studies with his golfing ambitions. The future looks bright for this promising young golfer as he continues to make his mark on the golfing world, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Ian Poulter.
