Famous Chef Gordon Ramsay Discloses Skin Cancer Diagnosis and Urges Public to Regularly Apply Sunscreen
Gordon Ramsay, the renowned British celebrity chef and restaurateur, recently shared some personal news with his followers on Instagram. The star of multiple cooking reality-TV shows, including "Hell's Kitchen," "Kitchen Nightmares," and "MasterChef," revealed that he was diagnosed with skin cancer.
Specifically, Ramsay was diagnosed with Basal Cell Carcinoma, a type of skin cancer that begins in the basal cells, which produce new skin cells. This form of cancer can take many forms on the skin, including a slightly transparent or brown bump, and most often occurs on parts of the skin exposed to the sun, such as the head and neck.
Ramsay expressed his gratitude to The Skin Associates for their quick work in removing the Basal Cell Carcinoma. The exact name or location of the medical institution has not been disclosed in the available sources, but Ramsay publicly shared photos of the surgery site under his left ear and thanked the medical team for their care.
In a light-hearted manner, Ramsay joked that he did not receive a face-lift during the procedure, and shared pictures of a bandage over part of his face and neck, and another showing a line of stitches from his earlobe to the top of his neck.
The Mayo Clinic states that most basal cell carcinomas are caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight. To help protect against this type of skin cancer, it is advised to avoid the sun and use sunscreen.
Gordon Ramsay owns and operates over 80 restaurants around the world, including more than 20 across the United States. His latest show, "Gordon Ramsay's Secret Service," premiered on Fox this May. Ramsay asked his followers not to forget their sunscreen this weekend, emphasising the importance of sun protection.
Ramsay's openness about his experience with skin cancer serves as a reminder to everyone to prioritise their health and take care of their skin, especially when spending time in the sun.
