Farmer in Cebu earns PHP 3.4 million from manufacturing illicit methamphetamine hydrochloride, colloquially known as shabu.
In a joint operation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7, the PNP Drug Enforcement Group 7, and the Naval Forces Central, a 30-year-old farmer named alias Jokjok was arrested in Cebu City on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 14:40.
The arrest occurred during a buy-bust operation in the forested areas of the city. Half a kilo of shabu, with an estimated value of P3.4 million, was seized during the operation. The seized shabu was divided into five large packs.
The operation was the culmination of a three-week surveillance period, during which PDEA 7 monitored Jokjok based on information provided by a confidential informant. The informant revealed that Jokjok, a resident of Sitio Buanan, Barangay Pung-ol Sibugay, was selling 15 grams of shabu per week.
Charges for violating Sections 5 and 11, Article II, of Republic Act 9165 are being prepared against the suspect. These sections pertain to the sale, trading, administration, and dispensation of dangerous drugs, as well as the maintenance of a drug den.
The five large packs of shabu were taken to the PDEA 7 Regional Forensic Unit for chemical analysis. The results of the analysis will serve as crucial evidence in the upcoming court proceedings against Jokjok.
This arrest is a testament to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat illegal drug activities in the region. The public is reminded to report any suspicious activities to the authorities to help maintain a safe and drug-free community.
