Fast charging companies, Fastned and Tesla, collectively control approximately 44% of the Dutch fast-charging network by May 2025.
The Netherlands is witnessing a surge in the number of charging point operators (CPOs) as the country embraces electric vehicle (EV) adoption and the expansion of fast-charging infrastructure. Companies like Shell Recharge, LEAP24, and IONITY are leading the charge, but the landscape is set to expand further with the potential entry of Allego, Fastned, Tritium, and others.
Paul Jan Jacobs, the founder and managing partner at EVBoosters, is helping these companies strengthen their leadership teams and fill critical senior positions. With a focus on sales, operations, and product roles, Paul offers an introductory call for CEOs, founders, and investors seeking to make strategic hires.
EVBoosters, a trusted executive search partner in the EV Charging Industry since 2018, has been instrumental in recruiting leaders and experts for growth.
The rapid growth is evident in the numbers. Shell Recharge operates 529 charging points providing 102 MW of power, with a 41% year-on-year growth. IONITY operates 130 charging points in the Netherlands with 45 MW of power, showing a 44% year-on-year growth. LEAP24 has 161 charging points and 29 MW, with a 50% year-on-year growth.
Tesla, a major player in the market, has installed 912 fast charge points with a total capacity of 192 MW. Fastned and Tesla account for nearly 44% of all fast-charging points in the Netherlands. Tango Electric, a newer entrant, has 54 charging points and the highest growth rate in the market at 63%.
However, the growth is not without challenges. Local permitting processes can vary widely and add delays to infrastructure rollouts. Grid capacity constraints in many areas of the Netherlands are slowing down the expansion of new fast-charging locations.
As more charging point operators enter the Dutch market, interoperability is becoming increasingly necessary. Transparent pricing and standardized customer experiences are also needed for improved user experience in the Dutch charging market.
