Fatal accident occurs as wheelchair collides with a van, claims life of a woman
In the heart of Viersen, an unfortunate incident occurred on Mülhausener Straße earlier this evening. The accident involved an 88-year-old woman from Viersen and a 46-year-old man from Kempen.
The events unfolded when the woman, who was crossing Mülhausener Straße towards Vinnweg on a mobility scooter, collided with a van driven by the man. The man was traveling from Oedt towards Süchteln on the same road.
The man in the van was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and shock, while the 88-year-old woman was taken to a clinic with life-threatening injuries. The van driver was able to leave the hospital later that evening.
The accident resulted in the closure of Mülhausener Straße for an extended period during the accident investigation. A traffic accident response team was on the scene, and the investigation was conducted by the Viersen District Police Authority (Kreispolizeibehörde Viersen).
The further investigation of the accident will be handled by the traffic commission. The investigation took until around 01:35 AM. Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident.
