In an incident that took place on August 24, 2005, a woman's suitcase was stolen from outside a station shop at Göttingen station. The theft occurred around 15:30, and the victim promptly reported the incident to the local federal police station.

The federal police inspectorates in Bremen and Hannover urged the public to be vigilant and not leave their luggage unattended at stations. They also emphasised the importance of reporting thefts promptly, as doing so allows the police to start investigations and potentially identify suspects using CCTV footage.

On the same day, a 24-year-old man was temporarily detained by federal police officers at Uelzen station for suspected luggage theft. The officers had identified the suspect using CCTV footage from Göttingen station. The perpetrator of the luggage theft, who disappeared in an unknown direction after taking the suitcase, had boarded an ICE train to Hamburg.

Fortunately, the stolen suitcase was recovered from the suspect and returned to its owner later that afternoon. However, the investigation into the incident, which took place from 2022 to 2023, has not resulted in the public naming of the suspect.

The federal police remind anyone who is a victim of theft at a station to report it as soon as possible. For further inquiries, contact the Federal Police Inspectorate Bremen Press Office. It is crucial to maintain vigilance and co-operate with the authorities to ensure the safety of all travelers.
