Federal law enforcement agents at Hamburg Airport made two arrests during the weekend.
A wanted Romanian national, aged 51, was arrested at Hamburg Airport on Saturday around 1:30 p.m. The individual was wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Augsburg since March 2025 for fraud, and by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bremen since April 2025 for driving without a license in two cases and for forgery of documents.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on a Friday. During the air security screening, a wanted person check was also carried out, which led to the discovery of an outstanding fine of 1,800 euros. The individual was unable to pay the money himself and had contacted his mother-in-law living in Bremen by phone to arrange payment.
However, the individual was later unable to provide the money, assuring his contact that he could obtain it but later informing them that he was unable to do so. An alternative to the fine was 15 days of imprisonment. Along with the fine, there were additional costs of 123 euros for the procedure. In total, 1,923 euros were due.
Additionally, the search results do not contain information about the leader of the Federal Police Deployment Unit at Hamburg Airport or their contact details. The individual was found to have an outstanding 171 daily rates of 30 euros each for the fraud, amounting to a total of 5,273 euros.
After paying the required 1,800 euros, the individual was able to pay the required fine and was released from the police measure. The Bulgarian was then taken to the Holstenglacis detention center. It is unclear at this time whether further legal action will be taken against the individual in relation to the outstanding daily rates.
