Federal law enforcement apprehended an individual accused of cable theft

In a routine patrol around 10:30 PM on Saturday, federal police officers in Senftenberg made an unexpected discovery. A 40-year-old German man was found illegally present near the tracks in the goods delivery street area. The man was wanted by the Cottbus public prosecutor's office in two cases, having previously appeared in police records multiple times.

Upon noticing the patrol, the suspect fled, but was soon apprehended. The officers secured the evidence, which included cable sections, a balaclava, gardening shears, and other suspicious items. The man allegedly stole around 5 kilograms of copper cable.

The arrest led to the initiation of a criminal investigation for suspected aggravated theft. The Brandenburg police were present at the scene during the initial measures.

Meanwhile, the Cottbus public prosecutor's office is seeking a 29-year-old man suspected of arson in the Tiegelgasse area of Cottbus, who is currently held in custody. Additionally, a 32-year-old man wanted by Cottbus authorities in connection with offenses including computer fraud and drug law violations is being sought. Two Polish men, aged 30 and 64, have outstanding fines connected to Cottbus court rulings and are detained for unpaid penalties.
