Federal Law Enforcement Carries Out Multiple Arrests at Main Stations Essen and Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia (BPOL NRW)
In two separate incidents on September 5th and 6th, the Federal Police (Bundespolizei) made arrests at Essen Central Station and Dortmund Central Station, following the discovery of outstanding warrants during checks at the stations.
On September 5th, at around 19:00, a 53-year-old woman was apprehended by the Federal Police at Essen-Altenessen station. The woman, who is a resident of Essen, had a four-month prison term issued by Essen District Court in 2019 for fraudulently obtaining benefits. Her identity was confirmed at the Federal Police station in Essen Central Station.
The following day, on September 6th, a 43-year-old man was arrested at Essen Central Station. The man, who is a resident of Dortmund, had a warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Essen. He was sentenced by Dortmund District Court in 2022 for negligent money laundering, and had another warrant for a prison term of one year and six months for bodily harm issued in 2017 by the same office. The man's identity was confirmed using a fingerprint scan at the scene of the arrest. Following his arrest, he was taken to a detention facility.
The man's arrest was also a result of warrants discovered during checks at train stations. In Dortmund, a 39-year-old man was arrested by the Federal Police at Dortmund Central Station on September 5th, at approximately 09:55. The details of his offences and sentencing are currently unavailable.
In 2021, a warrant was issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Essen for a homeless man, leading to his arrest at Essen Central Station. The man was sentenced by Mettmann District Court to a fine of 1,000.00 euros, or 100 days in prison, in 2021. After making several phone calls, the man's boss's mother appeared and paid the fine, allowing the man to leave the station.
The arrests made at Essen and Dortmund stations serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by the Federal Police to ensure justice is served and warrants are executed. The details of the officers involved in the arrests are currently unavailable.
