Federal Law Enforcement (ICE) encounters incident near Celle Steine, sustaining damage - Local authorities seek eyewitness accounts
On Friday, August 29, 2025, an incident occurred near Celle, Germany, on the railway line between Hamburg and Hannover. The high-speed train ICE 775 ran over gravel stones on the tracks, causing damage to the wheel assembly.
According to the Federal Police, entering railway premises always carries a risk of death, as the laid stones on the tracks can become uncontrollable projectiles when hit by trains, posing a danger to both perpetrators and bystanders. Fortunately, no passengers were injured during this incident.
The incident caused a total delay of 80 minutes for 5 trains. The damaged ICE 775 had to be taken out of service in Hannover. The train was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Isernhagen and continued to Hannover Hauptbahnhof at reduced speed.
The Federal Police is investigating the incident and seeking witnesses who may have seen possible perpetrators on the railway tracks in the area between the Fuhse canal and the street "Zum Kiebitzsee" in Celle on Friday evening.
The perpetrators responsible for the dangerous interference with rail traffic were not found at the scene.
