Federal Regulatory body grants Funke permission to acquire Brigitte, Gala, and Parents media outlets.

In a recent development, the Federal Cartel Office has given its approval for Funke Mediengruppe to acquire the magazines "Brigitte" and "Gala" from Gruner + Jahr. This decision marks a significant shift in the women's magazine segment's readership markets.

The acquisition, which follows the sale of these titles from RTL, places Funke as the seller of advertising for "Brigitte" and "Gala". However, it's important to note that the print advertising for these high-revenue titles will remain independent, as Funke will not be taking over the print advertising.

Funke will operate these titles under its subsidiary, Funke Women, People & Family. This decision ensures that the print advertising for "Gala" and "Brigitte" will remain independent of Funke or BCN, which, co-controlled by Funke, already has a very strong market position in print advertising.

Other established titles from various publishers also exist in the women's magazine readership markets. For instance, Burda distributes "Bunte" and "Freundin", Bauer distributes "Cosmopolitan", and Klambt distributes "FΓΌr Sie" and "Grazia".

The Federal Cartel Office's approval of the acquisition comes after a thorough review, considering the potential competition implications. Despite Funke's strong market position, the Cartel Office concluded that there is still sufficient competition from larger and smaller publishers.

The 'Eltern' brand, which is also part of the acquisition, has many competitors, including in its podcasts and websites such as "eltern.de", "urbia.de", "vorname.com", and "schwangerschaft.de".

The Cartel Office also stated that it does not expect competition problems on the readership markets for women's magazines. The Office will continue to monitor the advertising aspect for 'Gala' and 'Brigitte' in the future to ensure fair competition.

In conclusion, Mundt, President of the Federal Cartel Office, stated, "Therefore, we could approve the acquisition by Funke." This decision opens a new chapter for "Brigitte" and "Gala", while maintaining competition and diversity in the women's magazine market.
