Feds nab suspected black metal thieves in Finsterwald, according to the local police department arrest reports.
Early Monday morning, two suspected scrap metal thieves were apprehended by the Federal Police at Finsterwalde station. The suspects, both German nationals aged 36, were arrested around 3:20 AM.
According to the Federal Police Directorate Berlin, the suspects had gained unauthorized access to the old signal box and were removing cables and circuit boards. The Brandenburg Police supported the operation at Finsterwalde station.
One of the men had two outstanding arrest warrants issued by the Cottbus Public Prosecutor's Office. As the man was unable to pay the fines, he was taken to a detention facility by the Federal Police officers.
In another case, the Lübben Local Court had issued a penalty order for a fine of €1,200 (or 60 days' imprisonment) for fraud against the same man. Previously, the Bad Liebenwerda Local Court had sentenced the same man to a fine of €4,000 (or 200 days' imprisonment) for the theft of low-value items and the unauthorized cultivation of narcotics.

The other man was released from Finsterwalde station after the police processing was complete. The Federal Police officers secured evidence and initiated investigations against both suspects for the offense of theft.
