Financial aid granted for solar energy installation on local government structures
Dormagen Modernizes Municipal Buildings with Solar Power, Boosting Climate Protection
The city of Dormagen is taking a significant step towards modernization and climate protection as it plans to install photovoltaic systems in four of its municipal buildings. The initiative is made possible by a grant of approximately 330,000 euros from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection, and Energy.
The photovoltaic systems are set to be installed in the coming months at the sports center on Wilhelm-Busch-Straße in Zons, the city library, the Friedensschule in Gohr, and the Tannenbusch School at Kronenpützchen. The budget for each project varies, with the sports center receiving 138,000 euros, the city library 106,700 euros, the Friedensschule 46,700 euros, and the Tannenbusch School 38,600 euros.
Mayor Erik Lierenfeld expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that both ecologically and economically, the new photovoltaic systems benefit the city. He highlighted that the city will be able to make an important contribution to climate protection while also saving budget funds by using solar power.
The head of the Friedensschule in Gohr, where a photovoltaic system is being installed, is Johannes Gillrath. The city aims to reduce CO2 emissions and lower energy costs in the long term with the in-house production of solar power.
The state funding allows the city to modernize these four municipal buildings, which will not only make an important contribution to climate protection but also improve the city's energy efficiency. The land and federal government will cover 95 percent of the total costs, while the city's own contribution is 5 percent.
With these new photovoltaic systems, Dormagen will join the ranks of cities committed to sustainable energy solutions. The city will use the savings from energy costs to fund other projects or reduce taxes, making it a more eco-friendly and financially responsible city.
