Finland's Markkanen scores a remarkable 43 points, leading his team's victory
Finland Remains Unbeaten in EuroBasket 2025 as Markkanen Shines
Lauri Markkanen scored a career-high 43 points to lead Finland to a dominant 109-79 victory over Britain in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 on Aug. 30. The win keeps Finland at the top of Group B, sharing the lead with Germany and Lithuania.
Markkanen's impressive performance fell just short of the all-time EuroBasket record, held by Luka Doncฬicฬ who scored 47 points against France in 2022. However, Markkanen did set a Finnish national team scoring record during the tournament, scoring 43 points against Croatia, not France, as previously reported.
In the game against Britain, Markkanen played for 23 minutes, shooting 9-of-15 from the field and making five 3-pointers in the first half alone. His last three-pointer in the fourth quarter extended Finland's lead to a commanding 84-56.
Sasu Salin also had a strong game for Finland, going 7-of-9 from beyond the arc to score 21 points. Olivier Nkamhoua added 13 points for Finland in the win.
On the other side, Luke Nelson was Britain's top scorer with 13 points, but it wasn't enough to prevent Britain from falling to 0-2 in the group stage of the tournament.
With the win, Finland remains unbeaten at 2-0 in the tournament and will look to continue their strong form as they look to advance to the knockout stages.
