A devastating fire broke out in a multi-family house in Kassel's Leipziger Straße area on June 15, 2025, at 6:15 PM. The incident left a 60-year-old resident requiring medical treatment at a local hospital, as they suffered severe burns to their forearms.

The fire began on a private terrace due to a gas leak while using a gas grill. The blaze quickly spread to the wooden terrace floor and then to the building, causing extensive property damage estimated in the low six-figure range. As a result, the resident's apartment is currently uninhabitable.

The city of Kassel has stepped in to provide support, accommodating the family of the affected resident in an emergency shelter. The Kassel Criminal Police, led by Frank Jochheim, the Head of the Criminal Police, are conducting the investigation into the incident.
