Fire Contained in Hotel's 5th Floor, Hannover-Mittelfeld, Thanks to Functioning Sprinkler System
A fire broke out at a hotel located at the Expo Plaza in Hannover on Friday evening. The exact name of the hotel is not known, but the H+ Hotel Hannover, situated about 2.8 km from the Hannover Exhibition and Trade Center, is the closest prominent hotel to the venue.
The automatic fire alarm system of the hotel was triggered around 10:00 PM, prompting an immediate response from the Fire Department Hannover. The alarm level was raised, and additional firefighting forces and emergency services were dispatched.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that the hotel's automatic sprinkler system had already contained the fire, preventing its spread to other areas of the hotel. The initial investigation revealed that several smoke detectors in the sauna area on the 5th floor of the hotel had been activated. A hotel guest confirmed this.
The operation to extinguish the fire and carry out follow-up measures, such as ventilation, lasted until around 2:00 AM. The activation of the sprinkler system resulted in extensive water damage, requiring some hotel guests to be accommodated in nearby hotels. The fire department supported these measures.
One hotel guest required attention from the emergency services but did not need to be transported to a hospital. However, a baby who required special baby food had to be transported during the operation, but the necessary food could not be accessed.
The extent of the damage caused by the fire is unknown. The fire department did not provide information on whether the fire had been fully extinguished.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with both the fire department and the police involved. No further details about the evacuation or accommodation of hotel guests were provided.
