Fire Departments in NRW Distribute Fire Safety Kits for Seniors

The Association of Fire Departments (VdF) NRW in Wuppertal recently hosted an event where they handed over fifteen fire safety kits, designed specifically for seniors, to help them store vital information easily accessible to emergency services.

These kits, developed in collaboration with the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (Technisches Hilfswerk, THW), are a significant step towards enhancing the safety of elderly individuals, particularly those with dementia, mental health issues, and those taking multiple medications with unknown side effects.

The fire safety kits, supported by Provinzial, are loaded with essential safety equipment such as smoke and CO2 detectors, fire extinguisher spray, and an emergency kit. They also demonstrate the use of a fire alarm device that warns of fire danger on the stove, making everyday life safer for seniors.

Each fire safety kit comes in a robust trolley filled with information and display materials, complementing adult fire safety education. The Association of Fire Departments in NRW e.V., located at Windhukstraße 80, 42277 Wuppertal, has developed new materials for fire safety education for seniors.

Maria Koch, fire safety education and awareness representative at VdF NRW, emphasizes the importance of intensifying fire safety education for seniors. Christoph Dohr, head of the main department for damage prevention and risk assessment at Provinzial, also emphasizes the company's support for fire departments. The organization can be contacted for further information at [email protected].

Provinzial, with a long tradition of supporting fire safety education, believes in partnering with fire departments to raise awareness of potential risks in daily life. The news about the fire safety kits was transmitted through news aktuell.

As people age, they may react more slowly, have poorer vision and hearing, and may not perceive everyday dangers. This additional safety feature is particularly beneficial for elderly people with dementia.
