Fire Incident at Multi-Family Residence: Collaborative Announcement by Detmold Public Prosecutor's Office and Bielefeld Police Department

In the early hours of Sunday, 07.09.2025, a suspected arson case occurred in a residential building in Lage, Germany. The family living on the ground floor was awakened by a loud noise and discovered a fire on the upper floor of the house.

Fortunately, the family and the residents of the upper floors, who were not at home at the time, escaped the incident unharmed. The fire, which broke out around 2:50 AM, quickly spread, resulting in the complete destruction of the upper floor and attic.

The Bielefeld Police have taken over the investigation, with Chief Inspector Moritz Rawe leading the case. The homicide unit "Gericht" is involved in the investigation, as the incident is being treated as a case of attempted manslaughter in conjunction with arson, as people were present in the building during the fire.

Initially, it was not possible to inspect the scene of the fire due to the damage caused. However, structural engineers released the building on Monday, 08.09.2025, allowing the criminal investigators to access the site.

The Bielefeld Police have arrested a 20-year-old suspect from Lage provisionally. The name of the suspect, who is described as being involved in robberies near the "Altauseer Kiritog" event, is not explicitly mentioned in the available sources. However, further investigations could not confirm the suspicion against the suspect, and they were later released.

The homicide unit "Gericht" is asking possible witnesses of the fire to contact them. For inquiries from journalists, contact the Police Headquarters Bielefeld's Leadership staff / Press and Public Relations. The contact information includes various phone numbers (0521/545-0) and an email address ([email protected]). The Bielefeld Police's website is also available at bielefeld.polizei.nrw.

Outside of office hours, contact the Control center at 0521/545-0. The contact number for possible witnesses is the same.

The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
