Fire Incident Report: final update on the blaze at the food manufacturing facility in Elmshorn, which necessitated the response of firefighters and the THW (Technical Rescue Service)

In the heart of Elmshorn, a significant fire incident occurred at a production site for oat flakes and pellets on Westerstraße. The blaze, initially discovered by employees during the night shift, erupted around 11:30 PM on Wednesday evening.

The fire was initially confined to the pellet press, thanks to containment measures taken by the company's staff. However, smoke was discovered in a 60 cubic meter silo above the press, where grain residues had ignited. This was confirmed through measurements using a thermal imaging camera and heat probes.

The firefighting efforts were extensive, with over 100 emergency personnel from six different fire departments being deployed. The volunteer fire departments of Seester and Horst played a crucial role in extinguishing the fire during the day and evening hours. Additional forces from Pinneberg and Klein Nordende were alerted to maintain a sufficient supply of breathing apparatus carriers.

To combat the fire in the silo, a pipe was installed to transport the residues to containers outside the building. Firefighters, including more than 30 breathing apparatus carriers, worked tirelessly until the early morning hours to extinguish the fire. The blaze was finally put out at 2:45 AM, and most of the more than 70 forces from the fire department and THW could return to their stations.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. A comprehensive inspection of the production facility was carried out after the initial fire to assess the extent of the damage, which is yet to be determined.

Inquiries regarding this incident should be directed to the Press Spokesperson Sebastian Kimstädt of the Kreisfeuerwehrverband Pinneberg. It is worth noting that the specific names of the leaders of the fire brigades present have not been disclosed in the available information.

The FF Alveslohe also played a role in the operation, transporting a water tanker to Elmshorn. Several cubic meters of pellet residues were removed from the facility as part of the firefighting and cleanup efforts.

This incident has been classified as FEU G, a large-scale fire. The production facility continues to undergo inspection and assessment to ensure the safety of the community and the workers.
