Firefighters from Bonn, Düsseldorf, Leverkusen, Königswinter, and Ratingen headed to forest fires in Spain for subsequent updates
The German Forest Fire Module, deployed around the village of San Ciprian, south of La Baña, successfully completed its mission in Spain on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. The fire from the weekend had spread southwards towards San Ciprian, threatening the village.
Due to the hilly terrain, the deployment forces were on standby in San Ciprian while the village was evacuated on Monday. With hoses, hand tools, and the use of tactical fire by Spanish deployment forces, the fire was stopped at designated points. Spanish special forces and numerous firefighting aircraft and helicopters provided support in fighting the fire.
On Tuesday, the deployment forces were deployed at the control lines with terrain-capable tanker trucks. Control lines several meters wide were created in the hills using bulldozers to stop the approaching fire. The fire was eventually contained, and the German forces withdrew in the afternoon on Tuesday.
The German representative in Spain, Generalkonsul Elmar Jakobs, who assumed his post as Consul General in Barcelona on August 20, 2025, will bid farewell to the unit on the morning of August 29, 2025.
The return journey of the German Forest Fire Module is scheduled for Wednesday morning. From the border crossing into Germany, the sub-units will continue their journey home to Lower Saxony and the participating NRW cities independently. The Forest Fire Module will be relocated to Germany in a convoy.
The information about the deployment and return journey was transmitted via news aktuell. For further questions, the Fire and Rescue Service Bonn can be contacted.
