The German Forest Fire Module, which was deployed in the village of San Ciprian, south of La Baña, on August 26, 2025, has successfully completed its mission. The unit, which was on standby while the village was evacuated on the same day, worked alongside Spanish special forces and numerous firefighting aircraft and helicopters to mitigate the threat to the village.

On Tuesday, the deployment forces used off-road tanker trucks, hoses, hand tools, and tactical firefighting to contain the fire. Control lines several meters wide were created in the hills using bulldozers to halt the approaching fire. The efforts paid off, as the threat to San Ciprian was effectively neutralised.

The return journey of the German Forest Fire Module to Germany is scheduled for Wednesday morning. The unit will continue its journey home to Lower Saxony and participating NRW cities independently upon crossing the border into Germany. The Fire and Rescue Service Bonn can provide further information about the return journey and the German Forest Fire Module.

The German representative in Spain, Elmar Jakobs, the German Consul General in Barcelona, who assumed office on August 20, 2025, will bid farewell to the unit before its departure. Jakobs, who replaced Dirk Rotenberg earlier this year, will say goodbye to the unit on the morning of August 29, 2025.

Upon withdrawing from San Ciprian, the German forces left behind a village that was ready to return to normalcy. The evacuation order was lifted, and the villagers were able to return to their homes. The successful deployment of the German Forest Fire Module in Spain marked a significant milestone in international firefighting cooperation.
