Grass Fire in Carleton Place: A Community Response
A grass fire broke out near Woodward Street in Carleton Place on the evening of September 3rd, close to the Caldwell Street Public School and Burgess Street. According to the Carleton Place Fire Department, they responded to the incident shortly before 9 p.m.
Deputy Fire Chief Dave Joy confirmed that the fire impacted both school and private property. The fire was near the back area of the Caldwell Street Public School property and a backyard on Burgess Street. Thankfully, no one was inside the trailer during the fire incident, and it appears that the trailer on the private property near the flames did not sustain any damage.
The first firefighter on the scene used water provided by a resident to combat the fire before the pumper arrived. The names of the two teenagers present on the evening before the fire are not publicly disclosed. According to onlookers, these two youths were nearby just before the fire was spotted. However, Const. Corey Noonan, media relations officer for the OPP, mentioned that the occurrence details do not indicate that kids ran away.
