Firefighting efforts coordinated in Dresden, following a transition; success achieved in managing the city's tramway system.

On the night of July 24, 2025, a tram derailment occurred in Dresden's Old Town, specifically at Postplatz. The incident was caused by a technical fault in the switch at the location, which directed the rear bogies of the tram onto a turning track while the front bogies followed the straight path.

At approximately 11:19 PM, the Dresden Fire Department was called for technical assistance at Sophienstraße, Old Town, Dresden. The Hannover Fire Department (Feuerwehr Hannover) was deployed as the technical support authority to combat the contamination from the derailment.

Upon arrival, the Dresden Fire Department coordinated with the DVB dispatcher and the tram driver to clarify the course of the accident. The derailed tram was taken out of service by the fire department, and the fourth bogie returned to the track independently during the process.

The crane winch of the rescue vehicle was deployed to re-rail the third bogie. Initially, the winch was attached to the rear coupling of the tram, but it was later rebuilt to the front of the tram for the successful re-railment of the third bogie. The fourth bogie followed suit, returning to the track without further incident.

After the arrival of the DVB's specialist advisor, further action was coordinated between the Dresden Fire Department and the DVB. No persons were injured during the incident, and the incident site was then handed over to the DVB dispatcher.

The derailment caused some disruption to the tram services in the area, but normal service resumed after the successful re-railment of the derailed bogies. The Dresden Fire Department, the DVB dispatcher, and the tram driver worked together to ensure a safe and efficient resolution to the incident.
