Firefighting unit successfully put out a blaze in a thatched cottage located along the road connecting Stürzelberg and Zons.

A fire that broke out in a straw stack in Dormagen, Germany, on Thursday evening is still being monitored by firefighters as of Friday morning. The incident occurred around 11:45 PM on August 21st, in Schulstraße between Sturzelberg and Zons.

The fire, which engulfed a straw stack approximately 3 by 15 meters in size and containing about 140 bales, was reported by concerned citizens who noticed a strong odor emanating from the blaze. This led to several calls being made to the control center of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss.

Upon arrival, the Dormagen fire department, along with units from Sturzelberg, Zons, and the professional fire-fighting unit, found the straw stack fully ablaze. Despite their efforts, the decision was made to let the straw bales burn down under controlled observation due to the size and nature of the fire.

The NINA warning app was activated at 3 AM due to the fire, and as of Friday morning (11 AM), the warning is still active. A total of 35 personnel were involved in the operation, with fire units from Nievenheim and Zons being alarmed outside of Dormagen to assist in extinguishing the brush fire.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the fire. The operation is expected to continue until Friday evening.

The fire in Dormagen serves as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by agricultural fires. It is essential for farmers to take precautions to prevent such incidents, including regularly maintaining their equipment and ensuring that their storage areas are kept clean and well-ventilated.
