FIVE-DAY DURHAM Fringe Festival in 2024 attracts an impressive surge of spectators
The Durham Fringe Festival, held on Palace Green, was a resounding success, breaking records with the highest visitor numbers and ticket sales in its history. This year's event, the fourth of its kind, brought together 90 different artists and companies from across the globe, with performers travelling as far as the United States and Western Australia to participate.
Over 250 performances graced eight stages, offering a diverse programme that included magic shows, dance performances, new musicals, stand-up comedy, and more. Among the many captivating productions were sell-out shows that left audiences wanting more.
The festival was a key partner-supported event, bringing arts and culture to the heart of Durham. Six student performing arts groups showcased their productions, including 'From Retro to Remix' by Northern Lights A Cappella, 'Sonder' by Wrong Tree Theatre, 'Mid-Laugh Crisis' by The Durham Revue, 'Newspaper Punchlines' by Shellshock! Improvised Comedy, 'Technically: A Musical' by Foot of the Hill Theatre Company, and 'Payback Party' by the Woodplayers Troupe.
The Durham Fringe Festival would not have been possible without the dedication of over 120 volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the event. As the curtain comes down on this year's festival, plans are already underway for the 2024 edition, with anticipation building for the student and alumni groups who will present their productions at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
