Flaming Concrete Construction: LPI-G Incident
A fire broke out at the concrete works in Schmölln, Altenburger Land, on August 31, 2025, at 15:43 hours. The fire brigade confirmed a full-blown fire at the plant located on Crimmitschauer Street.
The police in the region were promptly called to the scene, and they were assisted by the Federal Police Gera in cordoning off the area. The fire brigade managed to extinguish the fire by 02:00 hours on August 31, but firefighting operations continued into the night, requiring the deployment of reserve police forces.
Two children, aged 9 and 10, with soot-covered faces and breathing difficulties were found near the scene. They were immediately taken to the hospital for examination. The exact circumstances surrounding the fire outbreak are still under investigation, but the criminal police investigations have linked the two children directly to the incident.
Crimmitschauer Street was closed for the fire brigade's operations, and traffic was diverted via the Lohsen Street. The closure was lifted at 02:40 hours on August 31.
As of September 1, 2025, there are no publicly known persons linked to the suspicion of arson in connection with the fire.
