Following Armani's demise, what plans lie ahead for the fashion empire?
Giorgio Armani, the renowned Italian fashion designer, has passed away at the age of 91. Armani's career spanned over five decades, and his impact on the fashion world is undeniable.
Armani's fashion empire began as a seed from his own designs in the mid-1970s, when he founded Giorgio Armani SpA with his partner Sergio Galeotti. The corporation grew exponentially, generating income through fashion, accessories, and hotels. After Galeotti's early death in 1985, the company belonged solely to Armani.
Throughout his career, Armani maintained full control over his billion-dollar company, both creatively and commercially. However, due to health reasons, he was unable to participate in the major shows in Milan and Paris in June and July for the first time.
In his final interview with the "Financial Times," Armani spoke about a gradual transition of his tasks to those closest to him. This transition is planned as a gradual and organic one, with Armani's close family members and longtime trusted associate set to take over.
Among those mentioned as potential successors are his companion Leo Dell'Orco, his two nieces Roberta and Silvana, his sister Rosanna, and her son Andrea. The exact succession plans for the brand are expected to be clarified in the coming weeks.
Armani was reluctant to discuss the future of his brand and did not designate a clear successor during his lifetime. However, he always rejected takeover offers from potential external investors, preferring to maintain his own independence. Last year, he received increasingly persistent takeover offers, which he always rejected.
According to his fashion house, Armani's body will be on display in Milan from Saturday. The funeral ceremony will take place in a private form, as per his request. Italian media reports suggest that Armani's will will then be opened.
Armani's influence on the fashion world is immeasurable. His designs have graced the red carpet at numerous awards ceremonies, and his brand is synonymous with elegance and sophistication. His passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy will live on in the fashion industry for generations to come.
Rest in peace, Giorgio Armani.
