Following the demise of Armani, the future direction of the fashion empire remains uncertain.
Giorgio Armani, Fashion Legend, Passes Away at 91
Giorgio Armani, the acclaimed Italian fashion designer, passed away on Thursday at the age of 91. The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the fashion world, leaving the future of his billion-dollar company uncertain.
In his final interview with the "Financial Times," Armani discussed plans for the succession of his fashion empire. He expressed a desire for the succession to be organic and not a sudden moment. After his death, no single successor was explicitly named; instead, the transition will be a gradual process.
Armani's family members, including his two nieces Roberta and Silvana, his sister Rosanna, and her son Andrea, were mentioned as potential successors. Among those mentioned by Armani were his long-time companion Leo Dell'Orco and his sister Rosanna's son, Andrea Camerana.
The brand will likely be managed initially by a small committee during the transition to preserve its style and value. Armani's plans involved a gradual transition of tasks to those closest to him. The corporation is now worth billions, having been founded in the mid-1970s with his partner Sergio Galeotti. After Galeotti's death in 1985, the company belonged solely to Armani.
Armani rejected persistent approaches from potential external investors due to his desire for independence. The brand, known for its elegance and timeless designs, initially focused on fashion, later expanding to accessories and hotels.
Armani missed the major shows in Milan and Paris for the first time in June and July due to health reasons. His wishes for a private funeral ceremony were respected, and the funeral took place in a solemn and intimate setting.
The coffin with Armani's body will be on display in Milan from Saturday. More clarity about the succession plans for the brand is expected in the coming weeks with the opening of Armani's will. It remains unclear how the namesake brand will proceed following Armani's death, but one thing is certain: his legacy will continue to inspire generations of fashion enthusiasts.
