Manchester City Extends Partnership with Puma, Securing Record-Breaking Kit Deal

Manchester City has made headlines once again, this time by extending its partnership with sports apparel giant Puma. The new deal, worth an estimated £100 million ($135 million) per year, sets a new record for a Premier League club's kit manufacturer deal.

The extended partnership comes at a time when Manchester City is enjoying a period of unprecedented success on the pitch. The team clinched four consecutive English Premier League (EPL) titles, including the 2022-23 "treble" season, further cementing their status as one of the world's top football clubs.

The new deal surpasses Manchester United's previous record EPL kit deal, which was signed with Adidas in 2023 and was worth £90 million per year. Manchester United, however, is set to take a £10 million reduction in its kit deal next season due to failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Manchester City's commercial revenue for the 2023-24 season stood at $434 million, ranking third worldwide. This revenue does not include any potential penalties for breaking Premier League financial fair play rules, which the club faces 115 charges for from 2009 to 2018. A ruling on these charges is yet to be issued.

The value of Manchester City was reported to be $5.16 billion as of May 2023, making it the sixth-highest valued soccer team globally and the third-highest in the EPL. The deal is reported to be longer than 10 years, making it worth a minimum of $1.5 billion for the first 11 years.

Puma's partnership with City Football Group extends beyond Manchester City, encompassing several other clubs including Melbourne City FC, Girona, Lommel, Mumbai City FC, Montevideo, Palermo, Bahia, and ESTAC. The partnership has been a "great success on and off the pitch," according to Puma CEO Arthur Hoeld.

Manchester City's jerseys have become popular globally, led by striker Erling Haaland's No. 9. Last year, the club even had a pop-up store for four months at New York City's Rockefeller Center. Bayern Munich had the highest commercial revenue among clubs at $455 million for the 2023-24 season.

Real Madrid had the second-highest commercial revenue at $439 million for the same season, posting a revenue of $901 million, ranking second globally in soccer behind Real Madrid. Despite these impressive figures, the Spanish giants are still ahead of Manchester City in terms of overall value, with a reported worth of $5.2 billion.

In conclusion, Manchester City's extended partnership with Puma marks a significant milestone for the club, setting a new record for a Premier League club's kit manufacturer deal. The team's success on the pitch, coupled with its growing commercial appeal, positions Manchester City as a dominant force in the world of football.
