Football team Warri Wolves faces a ₦1 million fine following their flawless start to the NPFL season.
Warri Wolves Start NPFL Season with Flawless Record
The Warri Wolves football club, led by President Ibrahim Traore, have made a strong start to the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. After two matches, they are yet to taste defeat, having won both encounters.
Their second victory came against Enugu Rangers, with a scoreline of 2-0. The first goal was scored by Oham Godwin in the 48th minute, and Prince Ebhohan doubled the lead with a well-timed header from a corner.
However, the match was marred by a failure to provide prompt, adequate, and effective security, resulting in a ₦1 million fine issued by the NPFL. The club has the right to appeal the sanction within 48 hours of receiving the notice.
The win by Warri Wolves places them second on the NPFL log, level on points with Bayelsa United, the only other side with a perfect record after two matches. This strong start is seen as a positive sign for the club's ambitions for the season, with the added depth and competition brought by the new signings.
Aliyu Mustapha, the media director of El-Kanemi Warriors, praised the depth and competition brought by Hakeem Otuyiga and other new signings to the goalkeeping department. Otuyiga, a new goalkeeper signing for El-Kanemi Warriors from Akwa United, has already featured in their opening two games of the season. Iddrisu Ibrahim, Francis Achem, and Modu Milo are other new signings for the club.
Warri Wolves' next match is against defending champions Remo Stars in Abeokuta. It will be an exciting encounter as both teams aim to maintain their impressive form at the start of the season.
