Ford Announces New F-150 Lightning STX Trim

Ford has expanded its F-150 Lightning lineup with the introduction of the STX trim, which replaces the XLT as the base model. The new STX, unveiled on Monday, boasts several changes from its predecessor and showcases the performance capabilities of lithium-ion batteries, as demonstrated in Ford's battery-powered demonstration vehicles.

The STX trim comes equipped with beefy Goodyear Wrangler tires, a feature borrowed from the F-150 Tremor, and includes upgraded tires as part of an "off-road package". While the majority of drivers may only require upgraded tires for off-road adventures, the STX retains the performance of a twin-turbo V6 or supercharged V8, ensuring it doesn't lack the noise and feel that many people value in a vehicle.

The entry-level trim of the new F-150 Lightning makes an impressive 536 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque. However, there is speculation whether Ford will build a hardcore F-150 off-roader that runs on electricity, especially if internal combustion vehicles are phased out in the future.

It's worth noting that the Ford F-150 Lightning prototype previously seen was not a Tremor, but a test mule for the STX trim. The new STX is priced at $63,345, making it an accessible entry point into the electric F-150 Lightning lineup.

Ford has not yet developed a rival to the Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss or Rivian R1T, but the potential for an electric F-150 Raptor more capable than the current gas version is not out of the question.
