Forecast suggests Hong Kong Observatory may issue T1 warning tonight

Hong Kong Braces for Unstable Weather and Possible Typhoon

The Hong Kong Observatory has issued a warning of unstable weather from Sunday onwards, with heavy squally showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds expected in the city.

According to the Observatory, the weather in Hong Kong is expected to be windy, with heavy rain and the possibility of flooding on Monday. The seas in Hong Kong will also be rough and have swells on Monday.

The development of the tropical cyclone is expected to occur between Friday night and Saturday morning, with the predicted typhoon signal in response to an area of low pressure near Luzon. The low pressure area is currently approximately 800km (497 miles) away from Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Observatory is predicting the possible issuance of a No 1 typhoon signal on Friday night at the earliest. The Observatory may also issue a standby signal No 1 in response to the developing tropical cyclone.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issues the Standby Signal Number 1 when a low-pressure zone near Luzon develops into a tropical cyclone on Thursday evening or Friday morning.

The weather conditions in Hong Kong are expected to deteriorate from Sunday. The public is advised to stay updated on the weather conditions in Hong Kong, and to take necessary precautions, such as securing outdoor items and staying indoors during heavy rain and stormy weather.

There may be flooding in low-lying coastal areas of Hong Kong on Monday morning due to storm surge, and the seas in Hong Kong will be rough with swells on Monday.

The Hong Kong Observatory is monitoring the low pressure area closely, and will provide regular updates on the weather conditions in the city. The exact timing and severity of the typhoon signal are subject to change based on the Observatory's observations.

In the meantime, the Hong Kong Observatory encourages the public to stay safe and to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property from the potential impacts of the approaching tropical cyclone.
